Artist Priti Gulati Cox

I grew up in Hyderabad, India, and have been living in Salina since 2000. I studied art at Sophia Polytechnic college, Mumbai.

My artwork is mainly concerned with the social and political climate we live in, with elements of both representational imagery and abstract symbolism.
Whereas my earlier work was more concerned with personal stories, my recent focus has been
on the collective suffering of segments of society caught in the middle of the power games that are overwhelming the planet.

The cross-cultural experience of both Eastern and Western philosophies and politics
have had a tremendous influence on my understanding of contemporay societies, which has in turn influenced my art.
In this country, as many others, the culture of “sensationalization”
has undermined our ability to grasp the juggernaut of destruction caused by our actions.

We live in a more globalized world, and yet we are so disconnected. As an artist, my goal is to bring that bigger picture forward.
I believe that every action causes a reaction, and whether we are actors in the play or the audience, at the end of the day we are all accountable.
